In a historic move to honor the legacy of African American entrepreneurship and economic resilience, the City of Augusta proudly announces the establishment of Black Wall Street Augusta. The newly designated district will span the historic area bounded by Walton Way, Laney Walker Boulevard, 15th Street, Broad Street, East Boundary, and Sand Bar Ferry Road—rich in African American history, commerce, and culture.

The Right Spirit: A Commitment to Progress

The development of Black Wall Street Augusta is rooted in the spirit of unity, resilience, and economic empowerment. This initiative draws inspiration from the historic Greenwood District in Tulsa, Oklahoma—also known as Black Wall Street—which was a thriving center of Black commerce before its destruction in 1921. Augusta’s effort seeks to recapture and build upon this legacy, ensuring a prosperous future for Black entrepreneurs and community stakeholders.

The implementation process for Black Wall Street Augusta follows the proven 8-step Black Wall Street USA District framework, designed to guide the successful development and sustainability of Black business districts. The process is as follows:

The Black Wall Street District

The first step is to formally recognize the designated area as a Black Wall Street district. This involves engaging local officials, community leaders, and businesses to secure the designation and promote awareness of the initiative’s goals.

Measurable Objectives

Clear and attainable objectives will be established to ensure the district's success. These include increasing Black-owned business ownership, improving infrastructure, boosting employment opportunities, and enhancing the overall economic climate.

District Evaluation

A comprehensive assessment of the district's current economic conditions, business landscape, and community needs will be conducted. This evaluation will identify strengths, challenges, and opportunities for growth.
