In the face of an unrelenting assault on Black America's culture, essence, and very existence—one that mirrors the oppressive spirits of King Herod and Pharaoh—we must rise with strategic intent. This is more than a moment of reflection; it is a defining moment of action. We are witnessing an aggressive effort to dismantle the very pillars that have sustained us, and we can no longer afford complacency. This initiative calls for a collective strategy to safeguard our identity, fortify our communities, and ensure that future generations thrive despite the adversities we face today.
Reclaim & Reinforce
Black History Month is not just a time for remembrance—it is a call to reclaim and reinforce the institutions that have been our salvation. At the heart of our survival has been the Black Church—a sanctuary, a fortress, and an incubator for leadership, resilience, and cultural preservation. During slavery, "hush harbors" and "invisible churches" provided sacred spaces where our ancestors could worship, organize, and resist oppression. The Black Church was also a key station on the Underground Railroad, offering food, shelter, and protection to those escaping bondage. Historically, it has been more than a place of faith; it has been a center for revolutionary thought and communal empowerment.
Reinvest & Revitalize
This initiative seeks to revitalize the Black Church as the foundation of our cultural and social infrastructure. Over generations, it has shaped our identity, strengthened families, and fueled movements for justice. It was within these walls that leaders were molded, communities were fortified, and dreams were nurtured. In an era where systemic forces threaten to erase or weaken the structures that have upheld us, we must take decisive steps to reinvest in the institutions that have always been our backbone. This means fostering mentorship programs, economic initiatives, and educational outreach through the Black Church to uplift and equip our people for the future.
Remember & Resurgence
Now is the time for action. Close your eyes and remember the role the Black Church played in your life—the sense of belonging, the wisdom of elders, the unwavering support that embraced those in need, especially single-parent households and vulnerable youth. That foundation must not erode. This initiative demands a resurgence of commitment to rebuilding our sanctuaries as hubs of empowerment.
Restore, Renew, and Reinforce
Let this be a movement to restore, renew, and reinforce what has kept us strong for centuries. The trumpet is sounding. The urgency is real. Will we rise to answer the call?
Dear Church Leaders and Congregations,
We invite you to partner with us in a powerful movement of faith and unity by opening your church for a one-hour Ecumenical Community Prayer Service on Thursday, February 27th.
In these times, our communities need prayer more than ever. This is an opportunity for churches across our city to come together in spirit, lifting up prayers for our neighborhoods, our nation, and our world.
How to Participate:
Open your church for one hour on Thursday, February 27 for a community prayer gathering. Invite members of your congregation and the wider community to join in prayer. Focus on unity, peace, healing, and hope for all.
By standing together in faith, we can make a lasting impact. Let’s unite as one body in Christ to seek His guidance and blessings. If your church is willing to participate or if you have any questions, please reach out to trumpetscall@blackwallstreet.org.
We look forward to praying together as one community!
