The Black Wall Street District (Est. 1998) in Oakland is California's premiere African American spiritual, arts and commerce District. The potential of this African American economic center is great and will be rewarding to future generations. Generations we will never meet. The merchants of this association owe a great deal of gratitude to the visionaries of this community. People like Dr. J.L. Allen, Dr. C.C. Bailey, Dr. Hebert Guice, Wilson Riles, Sr. & Jr., Juanita & Billy Joe Ambers, Charles Hill, Dr. J. Alfred Smith, Mayor Lionel Wilson, Bishop Walter Hawkins, Pastor Ray Mack, just to mention a few. Without those above and many others who paved the way for us this would not be possible.
Black Wall Street District activities include our annual Black History month celebrations, business luncheon events, networking luncheons, social events, periodic special events such as business expos and health fairs. BWSMA s' membership are comprised 369 district local merchants, 1,272 national businesses, 12 national and local organizations, people of all faiths and ethnic backgrounds.
