Black Wall Street USA Announces Prisoner Release and Re-entry National Committee
OAKLAND - Black Wall Street USA Announces the formation of the Prisoner Release and Re-entry National Committee. The national committee's Co-Chairs are Black Wall Street USA members Dr. Martha Bireda and Black Wall Street Tokyo president, Dr. Jaha Cummings.
All Black Wall Street USA Movement members who specialize in programs or ministers to the formally incarcerated were asked to join in on this very important Prisoner Release and Re-entry National Committee Conference Call Meeting scheduled for December 11th.
The conference call will focus on the following topics: Spiritual guidance, housing the released population, health and wellness, pre-release entrepreneurial focus, pre-release jobs & careers focus, reaffirmation, additional topics are subject to be added.
In an unprecedented move, 6,000 inmates were released from federal prisons in what the Washington Post calls history’s “largest one-time release of federal prisoners.” This change is due to last year’s decision by the U.S. Sentencing Commission to lower sentencing guidelines for drug crimes and apply the change retroactively.
Remarkably, this release is only the beginning. The Sentencing Commission has stated that about 8,550 inmates will qualify for release over the next year and has estimated that their sentencing reforms could mean the release of 46,000 of the 100,000 federal prisoners incarcerated for drug crimes.
